The name itself of Bertinoro recalls his great vocation to good food and excellent wine, as the legend of Galla Placidia tells: it was her, daughter of the emperor Theodosius, tasting a wine of this land served in a humble clay bowl, who said: “You are not worthy of such a raw cup, dear wine, but you should be drinked in gold.” Even today, going up towards Bertinoro, it is possible to observe the viticulture that dominates the magnificent rural landscape, so it is no coincidence that its wines have always attracted thousands of consumers and enthusiasts.
The vineyards lie on rolling hills and shape a landscape of rare beauty that alternates vineyards and olive groves, wheat fields and pieces of forest. Although the most cultivated variety is the red Sangiovese, it is instead the white Albana di Romagna, the only DOCG from Romagna, the wine that best expresses the characteristics of this land, and the meeting of the colors of these excellent wines, Albana and Sangiovese has designed Bertinoro as a meeting place of gold and ruby over the years.
Bertinoro, as well as sight, is the journey of taste, where you can enjoy the excellence of its typical products, tasting the best local specialties: the Savor, a homemade peasant jam, produced in the period following the harvest, the extra virgin olive oil DOP “Colline di Romagna” and, finally, piadina and squacquerone which, together or separately, represent the authentic and genuine taste of Romagna.
